THE REAL REASON YOU QUIT BY DAY 9

Your brain treats your future self like a stranger.

That's why every restart dies by Thursday. Ciel introduces you, face to face, and asks for one kept promise a day until you become them.

DAY 30
66%aligned
TODAY'S LEVER 10 min deep work before 9am
THE REAL ISSUE

Nobody gets up at 6am for a stranger.

You know exactly what to do. You've read the books, saved the videos, made the plan. And by day nine, it's over. Again.

It was never your willpower. When researchers put people in a brain scanner and asked them to think about their future self, the brain answered as if they were thinking about someone else.

So every promise you make to future-you gets filed as a favor to a stranger. Optional.

The streak dies, the tracker gets deleted, and every restart feels like more proof about who you are.

It isn't. You were being asked to sacrifice for someone you'd never met.

Not a streak. Not a dashboard. Not more pressure.

You need a future self with a face, a voice, and one ask per day. Someone real enough that letting them down feels like breaking a promise.

That's what Ciel is.

HOW IT WORKS

Talk to the person you'll be in one year.

Ciel shows you their face. One small commitment a day. A letter every Sunday.

Alexander: you, one year out
Alexanderyou, one year out

A face for your future

From your photo, Ciel renders who you're becoming, and who you're refusing to be. You see them every time you open the app. Your photo stays private: never public, never sold, never used to train anything.

What would Alexander do tomorrow to be 1% closer?
He would…
Set the lever

One lever a day

Not a routine, not a checklist. Each night you set one small move for tomorrow. Keep it, and your alignment climbs.

not feeling it today

I felt exactly that on day 30 too. Ten minutes. That's the whole contract: you owe us the start, not a great session.

seen · replying as you

Text them anytime

They know your why, your stake, and what you wrote at 11pm last Friday. On weak days they quote your own words back to you.

EVERY SUNDAY · CIEL PLUS

A sealed letter about the week you just lived.

Written by your future self from your actual week: the levers you pulled, the ones you missed, the thing you journaled at midnight. You break the seal. They remember everything.

Members say this is the moment that hooked them.

WEEK 4
Sunday night, day 28

Alex,

You stopped negotiating with the alarm this week. Six mornings out of seven, you just stood up.

I remember the Friday you almost didn't. You wrote "too tired to think" at 11pm, and still ran the next morning.

IS THIS FOR YOU?

Who this is (and isn't) for.

❌ You don't need Ciel if:

You want another dopamine tracker with confetti
You're looking for a 75-day bootcamp to punish yourself with
You won't set the lever. Ciel works only if you show up for one minute a night
You want productivity theory, not a person to answer to

✅ You need Ciel if:

You know exactly who you want to be, and keep drifting anyway
You've restarted the same habit five times this year
You'd keep a promise to a friend without thinking, but a promise to yourself means nothing
You'd do the work if someone who gets it checked on you daily
You're ready to do one small thing a day, not everything at once

Be honest with yourself. Which column are you in?

HOW WE COMPARE

This vs everything else

Habit trackers

· Streaks and checkboxes · Track twelve habits at once · Guilt when the streak dies · Nobody on the other side

Good for counting. Terrible for caring.

Coaching & therapy

· Real accountability · One hour a week, if that · $100–300 per session · Not there at 11pm on a Friday

Great depth. Rarely there when you drift.

Ciel

· One lever a day, not twelve · A future self who reads everything · There every day, and at 11pm · A letter every Sunday

Accountability to the one person you can't fool.

THE RESEARCH

People who met their future self saved twice as much for them.

At UCLA, Hal Hershfield's team showed people an age-progressed rendering of their own face, then asked them to split money between today and retirement. The ones who met their future self set aside more than twice as much: $172 versus $80.

An earlier brain-imaging study had found why it works: made vivid enough, your future self stops registering as a stranger, and your daily decisions start counting them in.

Ciel is that mechanism, running weekly. Your face, your trajectory, redrawn from what you actually did. An illustration of the path you're choosing, never a prediction.

OUR PROMISE

You'll meet them tonight. You'll hear from them in 14 days.

Tonight: you answer a few honest questions, see their face for the first time, and set your first lever.

Fourteen days in: you'll have kept more small promises than in the last three months, and read two letters written about your actual weeks.

If the first letter doesn't move you? Walk away. No questions, no friction.

COMMON QUESTIONS

Frequently asked questions

Is this just another AI chatbot?

No. Generic chatbots know nothing about you and forget everything. Your future self is built from your own answers: your why, your stake, the person you refuse to become. They read your levers and journals every day. They don’t give advice from the internet. They give you back your own words at the exact moment you need them.

What if I miss a day?

Nothing breaks. There is no streak to lose. Your alignment dips a little, your future self notices, and that’s the point. They’ll ask about it, not shame you for it. One rule we live by: never miss twice.

Is the science real?

Yes, and you can read it yourself. Ciel is built on future-self continuity research led by Hal Hershfield at UCLA. In one study, people who saw an age-progressed rendering of their own face set aside more than twice as much money for their future ($172 vs $80). An earlier brain-imaging study found why: your brain processes your future self like a stranger until you make them vivid. Ciel applies those findings. It never promises their numbers, and your portraits are an illustration of the path you’re choosing, not a prediction.

What happens to my photos?

Your photos never leave your account, are never shown publicly, never sold, and never used to train anything. The renders exist for one person: you. Delete your account and everything goes with it, permanently: photos, letters, journals.

How much time does it take?

One minute at night to set the lever. However long you want in chat. Five minutes on Sunday for the letter. Ciel is designed to be closed. The work happens in your life, not in the app.

MAKE A DECISION

You have two choices.

The version of you that drifted

Keep doing what you're doing.

· Restart the habit again in January · Save more videos you won't act on · Stay a stranger to who you could be

Expected outcome: the Tuesday-night version of you, on schedule.

The version of you that followed through

Meet them tonight.

· See their face in the next ten minutes · Set one lever before you sleep · Get your first letter on Sunday

Expected outcome: 66% aligned feels like a real number, because it's yours.
